ABOUT YOU
You’ll have previous experience of working in a residential care setting with a NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care. You might have previous supervisory experience, like delegating tasks, supporting inductions for new starters and 1 to 1s but this is not essential.
What is important is you are a positive role model, with excellent communication skills and a natural ability to get along with others. A supportive individual, able to motivate others to deliver the best possible care to our residents at all times. We are looking for a Learning Support Worker, to work 30 to 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday and the occasional weekend, we normally plan the rotas one month in advance, but additional opportunities also come up due to unexpected staff absences.
So what would you be doing?
This is a varied role in which you will support people to attend our learning centre in Kennington, Oxfordshire as well as provide one-to-one support out in the community. Day-to-day activities include supported employment, arts and crafts, snooker, baking, drama, music, dance, and horticulture; the list is endless!
One day you may find yourself supporting a small group to visit the Abingdon Market, play a few rounds of mini golf or go for a swim. The next, you could be taking William* to his work experience at a local farm or on a visit to a museum.
Perhaps you'll spend the afternoon in our learning centre where there is a computer suite, fully accessible kitchen, sensory/ games room and large courtyard which everyone likes to relax in on a sunny day. Ensure the safe running of the service:
- Assess resident wellbeing and welfare on an ongoing basis
- Keep our service compliant with legal regulations
- Provide a safe, respectful environment
Keywork:
- Oversee the wellbeing of those in service and complete appropriate sessions.
- Concentrate on the person and their individual needs, choices and aspirations, rather than on diagnostic categories or labels
- Work with individuals to develop agreed, meaningful and achievable person centred plans with positive outcomes that meet the individual’s aspirations
- Complete a range of activities during and around sessions
- Ensure positive risk assessments are created and implemented in line with our policies and procedures
- Signpost people we support to other services for additional support
- Maintain the health and safety of the building
- Support the team with the daily planning and running of our service.
Manage your own workload:
- Plan and carry out your core areas of responsibility
- Complete accurate and timely computerised records via our database
- Liaise with external agencies - such as community mental health teams, multi-disciplinary teams and carers - building relationships and projecting a positive image of the service
- Effectively monitoring and managing your own wellbeing through debriefing and discussions with your manager and colleagues
- Keep up to date with organisational developments
