Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, person-centered support to individuals with mild learning disabilities
- Assist with daily living tasks, including personal care, meal preparation, and household activities
- Support individuals in participating in community activities and developing social networks
- Promote independence and confidence through the development of life skills
- Work collaboratively with families, professionals, and colleagues to create and follow individual support plans

About You
- Previous experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential; full training is provided

We’re recruiting Support Workers to work across four supported living homes in our London locality, supporting adults aged between their 30s and 70s. This role offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships across different settings, while always keeping consistency and person-centred support at its heart.
Three of the homes are single-person supported living homes, where you’ll provide dedicated 1:1 support to one gentleman per home, each living independently in their own flat within the community. The fourth home is a larger supported living setting, made up of seven self-contained flats, currently supporting eight people. While the environments differ, the focus remains the same, enabling each person to live a life that makes sense to them, on their own terms.
The people we support have learning disabilities and a range of additional needs, including mobility, physical health, mental health, and behaviours of distress. Some individuals require full physical support, while others are more independent and live very active lives. You’ll need to feel confident moving between homes and locations, adapting your support while maintaining the same high standard of care and professionalism throughout.
Your role will involve providing personal care with dignity and respect, supporting both men and women. You’ll support people who use wheelchairs and bath hoists and assist with nutrition, including preparing pureed meals, providing full eating support, and carrying out PEG feeding and medication administration via PEG. You’ll also be responsible for safe food preparation, cooking fresh meals from scratch rather than using ready meals.
Just as important is supporting people to live full and active lives. For some, that might mean going to the gym, cinema, cafés, or day trips every day, sometimes more than once. Others enjoy shopping, visiting family, watching football, listening to music, taking part in arts and crafts, learning new skills, or engaging with sensory hobbies.
This is a part-time role for 28 hours per week, offering genuine flexibility. Shifts span days, wake nights, long days, and sleep-ins, depending on the home you’re supporting. Typical long days may run from 8am to 11pm, with a sleep-in from 11pm to 8am where required.
About you
You don’t need previous experience in care, full training and induction are provided but you do need the right values and attitude. We’re looking for people who are kind, patient, and reliable; who are comfortable providing hands-on support; and who are motivated by helping others live meaningful, independent lives.
You’ll be working both independently and as part of a team, supporting people with a wide range of needs, so flexibility, resilience, and strong communication skills are essential.
Due to the nature of the role, a full UK manual driving licence is required, and you must be confident driving an automatic car. The people we support have their own vehicles, so you won’t need to provide your own.

We’re looking for confident and reliable support workers to work alongside three gentleman who live in their own homes and want to keep building their independence. Your role will be to motivate and encourage them to maintain their individual tenancies, manage their medication safely, manage their weekly finance budget and keep on top of daily living tasks such as personal care, cooking and cleaning.
They can sometimes find it hard to get going with things, so you’ll need to be calm, patient and able to follow his support plans closely. A confident and consistent approach is key. This isn’t about doing things for them — it’s about supporting them to make their own decisions and build their skills.
You’ll also support the gentlemen to stay in work and build routines that keep them well and connected to their community. A driving licence is essential as you’ll help him them to work and other activities.
What will I be doing?
- Supporting three gentlemen to manage their tenancy and day-to-day responsibilities
- Motivating them to stay on top of personal care and medication routines
- Helping them develop skills like cooking and planning their week
- Supporting travel to and from work and community activities
- Encouraging decision-making and self-confidence
- Supporting the gentlemen with employment and maintaining work commitments
- Supporting these gentlemen to maintain friendships and relationships
Shift Patterns:
- Day shifts: working flexibly between 9am-10pm
- We’re looking for people with flexibility to work on a rota basis that includes weekdays and weekends.
- Rotas are provided at least 4 weeks in advance to allow a healthy work life balance- something we’re really passionate about!

- Drivers with confidence to drive peoples own motability vehicles (in & outside of town)
- A practical, person-centred approach — encouraging independence, not dependency

About Addiction Services:
BHT Sussex’s Addiction Services provide a comprehensive programme of residential support for men and women who seek abstinence and recovery from their addiction to drugs and alcohol. The service is based on the 12 Step fellowship programme and aims to help people rebuild their lives following addiction, addressing any issues which may prevent the enjoyment of a positive, drug and alcohol-free life. It provides the following services:
Detox Support Project - supports clients to achieve abstinence through a clinically supervised detox programme and individual and group therapeutic support.
Recovery Project - is for men and women who have achieved abstinence from drugs and alcohol and provides individual and group therapeutic support to sustain abstinence and prepare for more independent living.
Move On Project - upon completion of the secondary programme at the Recovery Project, residents can move on to BHT Sussex’s abstinence-based Move On Project accommodation to further prepare for independent living.
About the Role:
The Support Worker will be working with both Detox Support Project and Recovery Project clients.
The Support Worker will have responsibility for the delivery of therapeutic interventions, including one-to-one keywork and groupwork across the service, and will be involved in all aspects of client work, including housing management.
The Support Worker will also participate in the on-call rota.
Key Responsibilities:
· To undertake support planning, keywork, group work, aftercare planning and other client focused work.
· Providing a psychologically informed, supportive, and safe environment in which the users of the service are able to maintain and strengthen their on-going abstinence from addiction.
· To ensure that computer-based and hard copy client records are kept up to date and accurate. This will involve maintaining clients’ Outcome Star records on BHT Sussex’s In-Form database.
· To participate in reviewing the provision of services available to those who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs, to make recommendations for change, and to take responsibility for the development and provision of such services.
· To ensure that standards of health and safety and fire safety are always maintained within the service and to take on any specific roles in these areas, as directed by the service manager.
Person Specification:
To be successful in the role of Support Worker you will need to have great communication skills and be committed to the values of BHT Sussex. Some of the key skills and experience you will need to bring with you include:
· Working knowledge and understanding of issues surrounding addiction, experience of working with recovering addicts and alcoholics and an understanding of the role trauma can play in addiction.
· A working knowledge of the twelve-step model of recovery from addiction.
· Experience of running therapeutic groups in a professional capacity.
· An ability to successfully integrate the many different elements of the role (i.e. housing management, therapeutic work).
· Competent use of Microsoft software packages especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
· Ability to take part in an urgent or emergency on-call rota.
