Key roles

• Your key role is to manage and lead the instructional department.
• You will also participate in the activity programme by instructing, leading, co-ordinating and training both guests and instructors.
• You will ensure correct paperwork and records are kept for the maintenance of equipment and instructors qualifications and will keep up to date with orders, invoices and other admin.
• You will be involved in the planning development of new and existing activities.
• You will oversee the development of various programmes offered by the Centre e.g. DofE programmes.
• Oversee completion of logbooks.
• Make sure that the professional and skills development of your team is up to date and progressed forward.
• You will supervise and assist with the maintenance of outdoor education equipment and an inventory and recommend appropriate outdoor activity purchases or replacements and place orders, all within the agreed budget.
• You will be part of the Abernethy-wide Chief Instructors forum which meets regularly
• You will keep abreast of current developments in outdoor education and liaise with professional bodies on behalf of the Centre.

Essential Requirements

• A good working knowledge of working in an instructional department.
• Qualifications: RCI, BCAB Sheltered water coach, Summer ML, BC Trail Leader (L2), Archery GB Instructor. You do not need to have all of these, but a combination of several will be expected.
• Previous experience of leading a team
• Have a heart for service, evangelism, and Christian discipleship
• Are able to problem-solve and think creatively
• Have excellent communication skills
• Can cope under pressure, in a calm and efficient manner to set deadlines
• Are motivated, enthusiastic and demonstrate initiative
• It is a genuine occupational requirement that the holder of this post is a practising Christian whose lifestyle is consistent with the values and doctrine of the Christian faith

The Music Department at St. Lawrence University seeks a Director of Choral Activities. This is a an academic support, exempt staff position. The start date for this position is August 2026.

The successful candidate will direct the Laurentian Singers, a select undergraduate vocal ensemble, and the St. Lawrence Choral Society, an ensemble open to the entire university community. This constitutes 2/3 of the director’s teaching load. The remaining 1/3 will be comprised of classroom teaching or private lesson instruction, depending on the director’s interests and abilities and the needs of the department.

The Laurentian Singers sing the school songs at major campus events, such as commencement; present several concerts each semester; and go on tour every spring semester. The St. Lawrence Choral Society typically presents one main performance each semester. The Director of Choral Activities oversees coordinating both on- and off-campus performances for these groups, including organizing the Laurentian Singers’ Spring break tour. It is expected that the person in this position will help plan the annual Candlelight service in Gunnison Chapel and may be asked to help with other singing on campus, such as assisting the Gospel Choir (run by the Chaplain’s Office) or serving as advisor for the various student-run singing groups.

As a Swim Instructor at our Aylesbury fitness and wellbeing gym, you’ll need to have a ASA level 2 or Swim England Level 2 qualification, together with good people skills and a love for all things swimming. At Nuffield Health we have a variety of swimmers of all ages and abilities and run our lessons through the Swim England framework.

You will gain experience of achieving targets and working with colleagues to improve the performance of your lessons.

As a Swim Instructor you will: 

• Engage and inspire swimmers of all ages to achieve their swimming goals

• Make the most out of every opportunity to help people learn and develop

• Deliver one-to-one lessons or group classes

• Be a positive role model with a fun, engaging approach

• Have a talent for teaching that meets people’s individual needs

• Promote memberships by explaining the advantages that our facilities offer
