As a Theatre Practitioner / ODP in Anaesthetic & Recovery at our hospital, you’ll be alert, focused, detail-oriented and empathetic. You’re registered with the appropriate governing body, and you bring the qualifications and experience relevant to your registration, including NMC or HCPC. With post-registration experience, you’re a team player with a passion for exceptional patient care.

The Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital is situated next to the Nuffield Health Devonshire Gym, in Derriford, Plymouth and we have been part of the Plymouth community since 1971. We have 3 main theatres – 2 laminar flow and 1 digital, a fully JAG accredited endoscopy suite, a 35-bedded ward with one 4 bedded bay and one 2 bedded bay. Our outpatients department has 12 consulting rooms. We carry out treatment under a range of specialities including Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery. We recently were rated in the top 50 hospitals in the country for our total hip replacement patient outcomes.

About this role An estimated 12,000 men are raped every year and 76,000 sexually abused or assaulted. Yet just 4% of men will tell someone. Of those who do, it takes on average 26 years to do so. SurvivorsUK provides specialist support to men and boys, trans* people, and non-binary people who have been raped, sexually assaulted or abused. Our aim is to help any man, boy, trans person, or gender non-conforming person, to have the confidence to tell someone what’s happened to them, and to know that it’s OK to seek help. When they do, we want to ensure they have access to the right support so they can deal with the impact of their experiences of criminal harm. Sexual violence in prisons has long been ignored, leaving men without adequate support. Over the past year we have been part of a committee with HM Prison Service, Metropolitan Police and NHS England to create a Service on responding to serious sexual assaults within prisons in London. We want raise awareness amongst prison staff of the appropriate responses to sexual violence and gather information about the needs of male survivors in prison to inform future service provision. We provide emotional support, information and signposting to survivors and anyone worried about someone they know, through a national website and webchat service (open until 8pm most evenings). Last year, 2,600 people contacted us via our webchat services and social media. In London, we are the only organisation providing specialist services for men and boys, including individual counselling and therapeutic groupwork, available until 9pm six days a week. Across London, we provide the capital’s only Independent Sexual Advisor (ISVA) Service that helps men and boys through the criminal justice system. Purpose of the role • Partnership building and Improve understanding of sexual violence and male survivors amongst London prisons staff. • Support prisons in understanding of the prevalence and need of male survivors in London prisons • Gather evidence for further services to be modeled. • Spend two/three days a week providing support to prisoners in HMP Feltham Young Offenders Institution. • Provide counselling to prisoners, therapy and practical support interventions to men, boys, non-binary and trans people who have been raped, sexually abused or assaulted with high levels of need and who are most vulnerable Responsibilities Support and Advocacy 1. Vacancy: Postdoctoral Fellow in Sociology – SOFI, Stockholm University
The Postdoctoral position is part of the research programme “Sustainable synergies” (www.su.se/english/research/research-projects/sustainable-synergies). The aim of the programme, which is based on both internationally comparative research and in-depth analyses of Sweden and the Nordic countries, is to study how social policy and the welfare state can be developed to support a sustainable working life for everyone. In focus are the working-life transitions that individuals make during their lifecourse, and the programme examines how the interplay between different social policies can support successful transitions for different groups in the labour market. Potential interplays include between different policies within a policy area (e.g. education policy) as well as between different policy areas (e.g. health and pension policies). The programme builds upon quantitative data, and programme members make use of for instance comparative country-level data, comparative individual-level surveys, as well as individual-level register data from the Nordic countries.
Main responsibilities
Research within the programme is organized around five crucial life-course transitions: between school and work, work and family formation, work and ill health, work and retraining, and work and retirement. The postdoctoral research will be part of one or more of the work packages around these transitions, depending on research interests.
The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to develop and pursue independent research corresponding to that of the research program. An initial outline of research questions is to be included in the application in the form of a research plan. However, although independent research is essential, collaboration with senior colleagues is encouraged should opportunities arise.
Qualification requirements
In order to qualify for a Postdoctoral position, applicants are required to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country. The degree must have been completed no later than when the employment decision is made.
Assessment criteria
The applicant must hold a doctoral degree in sociology or a related discipline. It is considered an advantage if the doctoral degree or an equivalent degree was completed no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Under special circumstances, an older degree may also be an advantage. Special circumstances refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to:
- The quality of earlier research and qualifications
- The degree to which the applicant’s research plan and previous research support the overall goals of the Sustainable synergies program
- Skills and experience relevant for the analysis of life-course transitions and social policy using quantitative research methods
- Written and spoken English skills, where the applicant is expected to be fluent.
About the employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2026-03-02 or as per agreement.

VSA's Rowanlea House Adult Service, situated on the Linn Moor Campus near Peterculter, provides an intensive housing support and care at home service for young adults with complex learning and behavioural difficulties and autism that focuses on the development of meaningful life skills and personal fulfilment.
VSA believe that young adults with complex needs should continue to learn after they leave formal education. To that end, we engage our tenants in programmes aimed at developing personal, domestic and community skills. Our dedicated and enthusiastic team of Support Workers (Life Skills Practitioners - Adult Service), provide the necessary support and care to ensure this happens, and we would be interested in hearing from you if you want to join our team.
We are looking to recruit people that will both support and work with the adults within their home to help them to develop these life skills further, as well as expand their horizons. We also want people that can be innovative and help us to embed our approach in practice within this service.
You will be expected to work on a rolling rota, which will include early, late shifts and weekend working (shifts are: 7.30am – 3.30pm and 2pm – 10.15pm)

Being a Care Assistant, you will be passionate about delivering first class care and show patience, kindness and understanding towards our residents. Assisting residents with immediate needs such as washing, dressing, and maintaining their hygiene is a key part in the role however, the role will also involve getting to know the residents personally and providing them with emotional support.
This role would suit someone who is caring, friendly and empathetic.
