What is the role?
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Support Coordinator 14 hours per week. Working week will be between the following days and hours:
- Monday - Friday between 8am - 8pm & Saturdays 10am - 4pm
Salary band: £27,598 - £36,445. Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to review - in line with VSS progression arrangements. A higher salary placing will only be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
Primary location: Market House, Market Street, Shetland, Lerwick, ZE1 0DE. You will be expected to cover throughout Highlands & Islands.
You will be reporting directly to a Locality Manager, and you will be responsible for ensuring, within your Service(s), that VSS’s local service development and delivery plan is being implemented within your geographical area(s). Service delivery is provided by a team of skilled and knowledgeable volunteers and you will be responsible for planning their deployment to ensure that the service delivered meets the desired outcomes of victims and witnesses of crime and our service users. You will also be responsible for all aspects of volunteer engagement with VSS at your services, including recruitment, induction, learning and development, ongoing performance management and support. Contributing to business planning and co-ordination ensuring that continuous learning takes place to monitor that the outcomes of service users are being met is also part of the role.
You will bring experience from a similar role and a commitment to your own professional development. As a confident and supportive leader, you will know how to motivate others, build trust, and drive performance. You’re comfortable working with data gathering, analysing, and presenting insights that help shape decisions. You believe in fairness and inclusion with the confidence to challenge discrimination, bias, or stereotyping when you see it. 14hpw permanent + 21hpw 2-Years Fixed-Term contract. Working week will be between the following days and hours:

Job description
Job Purpose
To provide in-depth technical expertise in immunology and inflammatory diseases (e.g. Rheumatoid arthritis) and provide advice on the creation, set up and best operation of technical resources to aid the delivery of research and/or teaching objectives. This will include undertaking flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, cell culture and molecular biology. In addition, the postholder will undertake a range of technical support activities in line with the College/Institute/School Strategy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide in-depth technical support to academic and student service users within the specified discipline or assigned research project. Contribute to the overall smooth and efficient running of the lab to ensure an excellent experience for service users.
2. Provide in-depth technical knowledge, solutions, and advice to service users to maximise the learning experience and/or contribute to the delivery of research objectives.
3. Develop, create, and test new equipment, systems, procedures, protocols, models and/or techniques. Diagnose faults and troubleshoot day-to-day problems carrying out appropriate maintenance as required.
4. Design, plan and organise technical activities to meet the needs of service users within agreed timescales.
5. In liaison with relevant senior staff, monitor technical standards. Advise, implement and evaluate improvements to existing protocols as required.
6. Collect, analyse, and interpret data using standard procedures and ensure that accurate records are kept, and databases are updated accordingly. Present findings accurately. This may include research and/or teaching related data.
7. To advise, train and provide guidance to service users in the best application and operation of technical resources.
8. Where relevant, maintain appropriate stock levels, including appropriate preparation of specialised media and samples as required, and purchase consumables and supplies within defined budget. Ensure safe implementation and ongoing storage of potentially hazardous materials.
9. Where relevant, and in consultation with relevant senior staff, ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the technical workspace and facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting the completion of risk assessments and COSHH assessments, ensuring that all Health and Safety paperwork is completed timeously and recorded accurately, and implementing and adhering to all applicable health and safety policies, including specialist legal procedures for certain materials.
10. Where relevant supervise staff including allocating work and monitoring progress and outputs.
11. In roles within teaching laboratories, undertake general administration as required. This may include recording student attendance and collating student assessment marks for feedback to the academic lead.
12. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings/discussions and contribute to the wider College/Institute/School activities as required.
13. Keep up to date with advances in the relevant discipline and apply this knowledge to technical activities to further enhance the learning experience and/or contribute to the delivery of research aims.

The Role:
As a Support Practitioner, you will assist individuals living in their own homes with disabilities and/or additional support needs in all aspects of their daily lives, including support with medication and finances, housework, meal preparation, cooking and personal care.

Shift Patterns

These shift patterns are delivered 7 days a week including weekends and public holidays. Shift patterns may be reviewed and adjusted to meet the ever changing needs of the people we support when required also.

One of the gentleman we support enjoys nothing more than going for a pint and placing a bet or two on the football. Being loyal to his team, he loves going to as many as he can. One of the ladies we support has autism and a learning disability. She loves listening to music and getting creative with arts and crafts. She also loves spending time out in the community every day whether it's going out for a drive in her car, enjoying a nice coffee out or a bit of pampering. She likes to keep busy and one of her favourite things to do is to get her hair and nails done.
About you
Due to some of the complex care needs within our service, we're looking for people who bring experience of providing care and support within the Health & Social Care sector who have the confidence to lone work and manage behaviours that can challenge.
We will also need you to bring a commitment to studying for and achieving an SVQ (SCQF level 7) and completing training and further qualifications which are identified as essential for our service. We will fund and support you with any training and qualifications you'll need and we will even reimburse your yearly SSSC registration fees!To be a great Complex Care Practitioner, you'll need: -
- Previous experience of providing care and support to adults with learning disabilities and/or of working in a forensic service
- An understanding of professional boundaries, accountabilities and responsibilities

Typically, shift patterns will fall between the hours of 0800-2200 hours, but can vary on occasion if the individuals we support have events planned that they'd like to attend.
