Fakenham Choral Society (FCS) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Music Director from 23rd March 2026.
We are a registered charity formed in 1973, well established in the local community with a membership of 90 drawn from across north Norfolk. Although we have no formal auditions, our members are experienced choral singers used to four part harmonies. FCS has broadened its repertoire from the core choral works to pieces from Britten to Will Todd via Purcell and Hammerstein. The choir produces three concerts per year (hiring in orchestra and professional soloists) plus a very successful Come and Sing event.

We are seeking candidates who have:
• excellent musicianship with established conducting experience and an understanding of the classical and contemporary repertoire
• positive interpersonal skills to enthuse and instruct the choir
• Clear direction to a choir with mixed musical knowledge
Key responsibilities:
• work closely with the committee
• plan the music programme each year in consultation with the committee
• plan and lead weekly 90 minute rehearsals on Tuesday evenings during term times (September to June) arriving in good time to prepare and consult with the accompanist to lead rehearsals for and conduct concerts
• prepare and lead an annual come and sing day
• prepare singers and musicians to ensure readiness for each concert including sectional rehearsals
• support and promote the development of our choir members
• be responsible for sourcing soloists and instrumentalists in conjunction with the committee
• comply with any safeguarding regulations which may apply

Gap Years at Gresham’s
Each year, we welcome a number of Gap Year Assistants to Gresham’s Prep and Pre-Prep Schools. We aim to help these pupils gain vital career skills and leadership experience, plus the opportunity for a rewarding and fun year abroad in a close-knit and friendly community.
Duties may include working in the school office, coaching sport, assisting in PE lessons, helping in boarding houses, working as a classroom assistant, and taking part in school trips.
We are ideally located in the lively market town of Holt, which offers all necessary amenities. We are seeking to appoint a graduate assistant in the Music department for the academic year from September 2026.
The graduate will assist in all areas of the day-to-day running of the music department. They will report principally to the director of music and be encouraged to take a full and active role in the curricular and extra-curricular activities of the department.
Duties will include the following:
To assist where necessary with classes. This could include guiding pupils in their composition and theory work and in preparation for various group and solo performances. Each year the graduate assists in a community groups project with pupils who perform and arrange music for a staged production.
To assist the music department administrator in various ways ensuring the smooth running of the department. This will include some secretarial duties, designing concert posters and programmes and collating reports and, for rehearsals and concerts, helping with various aspects of stage management.
To take a full and active role in the performing calendar at King’s. Depending on the candidate there are choirs, orchestras and bands. Where possible, we encourage graduates to participate in many of these ensembles, assisting in, and leading rehearsals as appropriate.There are several occasions where a graduate will be asked to contribute to the department outside of normal timetabled hours, for example for concerts, choral society and trips. On these occasions adequate notice will be given and it is expected that the graduate will be correspondingly flexible with their time.
The department runs a small number of trips to professional concerts each year and the graduate will be encouraged to accompany staff and pupils on these. These normally take place in the evenings during term time. There are also occasional tours both in this country and abroad which the graduate student may be invited to join.
Our current graduate also assists with sport in the junior school on two afternoons a week and with lunchtime and break time duties. A more specific timetable will be drawn up when the graduate arrives at the school.

You’ll need experience delivering performing arts (dance and/or drama) with young people, plus the ability to plan and deliver sessions that are safe, structured, and engaging. You should feel confident supporting diverse groups of young people aged 8–19 (and up to 25 for those with additional needs), managing behaviour positively, and adapting activities so that everyone can take part – including those with SEND. An appropriate performing arts qualification, strong safeguarding awareness, and an understanding of inclusion and youth work values are important. Above all, you’ll bring energy, patience, and a real belief in what young people can do.

Summary of Role
To oversee, and manage syllabus developments and reviews, within the Theatre Dance genres at the ISTD. Responsible for facilitating the development, design and creation of progressive syllabi in collaboration with the Head of Qualification Development. To oversee all elements of genre-specific projects from graded examinations to teaching qualifications to ensure work is current, engaging, and inspiring for students and members and enables access to dance.
Responsible to Head of Qualification Development.
Line management of: Faculty Coordinator (full time)
Working Hours
This is a full-time role, working 35 hours a week, from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, with a one hour lunch break.
Flexibility to attend some meetings, courses and events held on weekends and outside of normal working hours will be required.
Time off in lieu will be earned for any weekend work.
Additional Information
– This role is offered on a Hybrid work basis (for fulltime employees this is 2 days in the office and the remainder of the week working remotely from home, and for part-time employees this is usually 1 day a week in the office and the remainder working from home).
– When working remotely, the Head of Theatre will be required to work from home in an environment with a high-speed broadband.
– The office remains open from Monday to Friday and is available for those who would prefer to work in the office environment or have difficulties working remotely.
– Hybrid working will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and employees may need to revert to homeworking, in line with any new government advice.
Remuneration
The annual salary for this position will be a Band E, (which ranges from £ 43,631 - 51,330, per annum), depending on experience.
Training
You will be supported in the new role with an initial induction, followed by guidance on ISTD policies and processes to ensure they feel confident, fully informed and equipped to carry out their responsibilities.
