BWG - Group Description
The Bird Working Group (BWG) exists to support the BIAZA membership in the management and care of bird species. It produces resources and guidance documents and holds an annual conference to provide an opportunity for training and networking for bird keepers. It acts as an advisory group to the BIAZA office and is a forum for discussion of relevant issues and development in husbandry.
BWG also administers the BWG Facebook and Instagram pages for BIAZA member staff; a networking forum for sharing news and ideas on all aspects of BWG husbandry and conservation.
BWG Vice Chair Role Description
This is an unpaid post for which you must have institutional support and your zoo or aquarium must be a BIAZA member.
The post is within the Bird Working Group (BWG) which is part of the British & Irish Association of Zoos & Aquaria’s (BIAZA’s) Species Advisory Committee (SAC).
As BWG Vice Chair you will report to the Co-Chairs of the BWG. Main responsibilities are to:
- Support the Co-Chairs in providing effective leadership to the members of the BWG steering committee.
- Help manage the operation of the working group, ensuring that efficient and effective operational procedures are in place.
- Help set annual objectives for the BWG and ensure these are met wherever possible.
- Attend SAC meetings wherever it is not possible for the Co-Chairs to do so, to provide an update on BWG activity. SAC meetings are held twice yearly.
- Support the BIAZA office and SAC with advice on bird care and welfare.
- Support the development of BWG husbandry guidance documents and resources.
- Support the organization of the annual BWG conference and additional workshops.
- Support administration of the BWG Facebook and Instagram pages.
- Identify any requirement for focus groups.
- Produce ideas and plans for the future direction & development of the BWG.

Cricket Coach

Join us as a full time Biology Lab Technician and you'll be joining a friendly, professional team of Lab Techs and Teachers across Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science in a well-equipped department.

Main Responsibilities: • To undertake all duties associated with the provision of anaesthetic care to the patients, including:- ▪ Pre-operative assessment. ▪ Administration of local anaesthesia. ▪ Administration of general anaesthesia. ▪ Monitoring local and general anaesthetic cases. ▪ Include in the notes instructions of post-operative care. ▪ Taking care of post-operative non-ophthalmic problems. ▪ Participating in the emergency cases and resuscitation. • To be responsible for the management of patients presenting for surgery in the extreme age groups, neonates and elderly people, and patients with serious systemic disorders, for example: diabetes, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease. • To maintain communication and cooperation within the department and with other medical and nursing staff. • To keep up to date in advances in anaesthetic practice. • To keep the Medical Director informed of any problems in the anaesthetic service through the Head of the Anaesthesia Department. • Participation in Private Practice may be conducted with prior agreement with the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director. • All other tasks mentioned in the Quality Management System. General Responsibilities: • All staff are expected to report for work on time and fulfil their hours of duty, from time to time some flexibility may be required in order to meet the needs of the job and this may be outside regular hours of work. • All staff are expected to promote and contribute to a cooperative and productive work environment. Staff are also expected to show respect and consideration to their colleagues and all patients and visitors to the hospital. • All staff are expected to follow the dress code for their area of work. All uniforms as required by different work areas should be worn at all times. Staff who do not have a uniform are expected to wear appropriate, respectful, modest business dress. Jeans are not considered appropriate attire. • The hospital is a no smoking hospital and smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking areas and only during official break periods. • All staff will abide by confidentiality rules and will not disclose any information about patients, the staff or the workings of the hospital, except in certain circumstances where express permission is given as per the Confidentiality Policy. • All staff are expected to comply at all times with the requirements of Health and Safety regulations and to take responsibility for the health and safety and welfare of others in the working environment ensuring that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment. • The Hospital has a Control of Visits in the Hospital and Security of Workers policy in order to help protect patients, visitors and staff and to safeguard their property. Mencap's Employ Me team provide supported employment programmes for people with a learning disability, learning difficulty and autism. The Employ Me team work with partners to develop innovative and inclusive programmes that will support people to develop skills, knowledge and experience that leads to paid employment opportunities.
This role is full time (37.5 hours per week) to March 2030. There will be travel required for this role, approximately 4 days a week.
South London supported employment programmes aims to increase workforce participation by helping people into sustained employment.
