Job Title: School Minibus Driver
Responsible To: Transport Manager
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- To drive Preparatory School and College minibuses and other vehicles as required.
- To carry out pre and post journey driver’s vehicle checks.
- To carry out minor maintenance checks such as checking/topping up oils, changing bulbs etc.
- To keep the vehicle clean and tidy inside and outside.
- To assist and supervising passengers as necessary.
- To assist other College staff as required.
Skills and Experience:
- Hold a full, clean UK Driving Licence with a D1 entitlement (essential for minibus operation).
- Due to vehicle insurance requirements, applicants must be within the insurer-approved age range of 23 to 70.
- Be willing to attend and pass a minibus driving assessment test/MiDAS.
- Be willing to complete and pass the Disclosure and Barring Service vetting process.
This job description sets out main duties at the time when it was drawn up. Such duties may vary occasionally but without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.

(2) Summary of Role
- Our School Minibus Drivers provide home-to-school transport for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
- Our drivers act with the utmost level of professionalism, care and compassion to ensure that passengers have a safe and enjoyable journey.
- Drivers also undertake routine administration tasks (e.g. recording mileage, cancellations etc.) and are provided with full training on the technical skills required. Further detail on School Minibus Drivers’ key tasks are provided below.
(3) Key Tasks
- Collect passengers from home address or other specified pick up point and transport them safely to their destination.
- Provide a door-to-door service and assist passengers to and from the minibus.
- Ensure the passenger is safely at their destination (depending on passenger, this may include checking others are present, and/or confirming return arrangements).
- Prior to driving, ensure all passengers are safe and secure in the vehicle and that safety requirements are complied with (e.g. seatbelts or wheelchair restraints). Where appropriate, this will involve working with a Passenger Assistant, whose focus is on the behaviour and safety of the passengers.
- Conduct vehicle defect checks and record appropriately.
- Complete required paperwork with regard to passenger lists, mileage records etc. including feedback.
- Read emails, safety notices, updates, etc. provided to keep all staff up-to-date.
- Attend and contribute at team meetings.
- Undertake all other reasonable duties as delegated to them by the operations team.
(4) Requirements for Role
4.1 All drivers must:
- hold a full UK driving licence, including D1 or D1 101 category (please note that we cannot accept drivers with more than 6 penalty points or with previous drink driving convictions);
- be over 21 years old;
- have extensive driving experience (as part of a previous role or otherwise) and the ability to plan routes;
- be committed to high levels of customer care and be caring and sympathetic;
- be able to get on with people from all backgrounds (e.g. people from all ethnic and religious groups, people of both sexes, people with disabilities) politely and sensitively;
- be reliable, conscientious and punctual;
- be physically capable of undertaking manual handling activities (e.g. assisting wheelchair users);
- have their own mobile phone and ability to access to email on a daily basis;
- be able to read, understand and follow written instructions;
- have excellent verbal communication skills;
- be able to accurately record basic information (e.g. mileage records and fares collected); and
- be smart and presentable.
4.2 Whilst it is not required, it is desirable if drivers have:
- familiarity with local area; and/or
- flexibility with regard to shift patterns.

Duties and responsibilities Main duties and responsibilities are indicated below. Other duties of an appropriate level and nature may also be required, as directed by the headteacher. Job specification Early Years Childcare and Education • Implement and deliver the EYFS curriculum in accordance with the children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs. • To keep informative, accurate and up to date records and assessments, including records of progress and any behavioural and developmental reports, using iPads. Observations are recorded on Nursery iPads using the Tapestry online learning journal. Contribute towards reports that are completed from a template twice a year. • To carry out any recommendations made following regulatory inspections. • To work within the setting’s policies and procedures. • To respond to each child’s need for individual care and attention and provide a high level of care and supervision that will enhance the children’s general health and well-being. • To act as a Key Person to a group of children and to ensure their needs are reflected in the planning of routines and activities. This is a permanent part-time (0.8 FTE) post which offers all-round exposure to academic administration and office team work within a college environment. We are looking for a strong team player who can work across a number of different activities systematically and to a high level of accuracy.
The postholder will be responsible to the Academic Registrar, and ultimately to the Senior Tutor. They will regularly assist the other members of the team and will therefore liaise with tutors, students, staff, and departments and faculties, so excellent communication skills are essential.
The appointee will be paid on a scale from £32,108 rising to £37,338 per annum pro rata (University Grade 5, current rates), depending on experience.
