Margate Film Festival are looking for two passionate young people aged 18-26 to join as Young Programming Assistants

You’ll have the chance to discover and evaluate the best films for Margate Film Festival, watching both feature and short films while sharing your ideas about what should be shown and helping decide what audiences will watch. You’ll be able to get involved behind the scenes, learn how a festival is organised, and meet others who enjoy films too. You don’t need any special experience—just an interest in movies and a willingness to join in.

Margate Film Festival welcomes everyone, especially if you’ve never done anything like this before. The role is flexible, so you can fit it around your studies, work, or other commitments. If you love film, want to be part of something creative, learn new skills, and have your voice heard, this could be a good fit for you.

Start date: Immediate
Duration: 4 months

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Watch and assess feature films and short films submitted to the festival
  • Help evaluate which films are suitable for Margate Film Festival audiences, forming the foundations of the short film programme themes & titles
  • Share your opinions and insights about the films you watch
  • Attend 1-hour programming calls with the festival programming committee (1st Wednesday of each month at 5pm)
  • Meet with the festival director to discuss the short film selections
  • Research and suggest films that would work well for our festival

About You

  • Aged 18-26 years and based in, or from, Kent
  • Genuine passion for film and storytelling
  • Ability to clearly and confidently share your opinions and articulate your thoughts on movies

Required:

  • Access to a computer and internet connection
  • Ability to attend three 1-hour online monthly programming calls
  • 15-20 hours availability between now and mid-September to watch and provide feedback on films
