  • Commencing 1 September 2026, an inspiring and enthusiastic full time Teacher of Science (Biology) is sought to build on our existing success and strong record of achievement at GCSE and A level. Whilst Biology up to A level is the main subject specialism for this role, the successful candidate will also be confident at teaching Key Stage 3 Chemistry and/or Physics. In addition, they will play an active role in the development and roll‑out of the new Science BACS, working collaboratively with colleagues to shape a forward‑thinking curriculum and deliver an engaging, skills‑focused science education across the school.     The Bedales science department is an extremely supportive and collegiate environment in which to further develop your teaching skills. This position may suit an Early Careers Teacher. Our commitment is to deliver innovative lessons with a strong emphasis on building practical skills, that will develop our students’ knowledge and understanding beyond a standard curriculum. All teachers can expect the majority of their teaching to be within their subject specialism with cross curricula project-based work highly encouraged. Students enter Bedales at Year 9 and the majority stay through to Year 13. There is an excellent uptake for Science A Levels, with Biology being a consistently popular A level choice.

    Experience & Background

    An inspirational and encouraging teacher, you will have a good Degree in Science, preferably Biology or a related area. You should be keen to play a full and inclusive role in the life of our busy boarding community and be able to contribute to the development of our innovative school. A team player with good communication skills, you will have an enthusiastic approach in all of your dealings with students, colleagues and parents. Flexible working requests may be considered.

    Timetable

    The school week is comprised of 32 lessons a week; each lesson is 35 minutes. Learning takes place throughout the day and encompasses tutoring, co-curricular activities, and support and extension sessions as well as subject lessons. Most core curriculum commitments for students are scheduled from 09:20 hrs to 17:30 hrs on Monday to Friday, and until 13:20 hrs on Saturday. Students also have access to optional activities before and after the main school day. Typically, students do not have core curriculum lessons scheduled on Wednesday afternoons. Bedales is a busy boarding school so work during the evenings, weekends and holidays may be required.
