Stipendiary Lecturership (6 hrs/week) in English
Fixed term for 1 year from 21 September 2026, £17,336 per annum
The Governing Body of St Anne’s College invites applications for a Stipendiary Lecturer in English, tenable from 21 September 2026 for a fixed term of one year.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, talented lecturer able to undertake six contact hours a week of tutorial and/or small class teaching averaged over the three eight-week terms of the academic year 2026–27. Duties will include setting and marking written work, assisting students with study skills, revision and essay writing, submitting reports, and providing assistance with undergraduate admissions if requested. Alongside a proven teaching ability you will have good communication skills and be able to participate in pastoral and organisation tasks within the College.
One of the largest Colleges in the University of Oxford, with around 860 students, St Anne’s is down to earth, ambitious, outward facing and collaborative. We aspire to understand the world and change it for the better.
St Anne’s admits about eight students each year for Single Honours English Language and Literature, together with about three for English and Modern Languages, and two for Classics and English. The College also attracts about four Full Time Equivalent (FTE) students a year from overseas, who are non-matriculated visiting students. English teaching and research at St Anne’s is supported by an extensive collection in the College Library. There is opportunity for the post-holder to work with the librarians and hold classes in the Library using the collection of rare books, and to allow students first-hand experience of handling 16th and 17th century texts.
