BF Adventure was established 35 years ago with the aim of supporting children and young people to develop life skills. We work across 2 sites - our 60-acre Goodygrane Activity Centre near Penryn and Cornwall Scout’s Nine Ashes Activity Centre near Bodmin. We have a highly skilled team who deliver flexible programmes of inclusive, adventurous outdoor activities for children, young people and their families.
Our range of Skills for Life programmes support children and young people who have a wide range of physical, social, emotional, learning and/or behavioural difficulties, and those who experience difficulties stemming from other disadvantages. Our positive approach develops skills and confidence, increases self-belief with the goal of achieving more positive participation in society.
We use a combination of youth work methodology, outdoor education theory and a trauma informed approach to ensure that our practice is evidence-based. Members of the team bring specialist knowledge in these areas and our commitment to training and development enables us to keep up to date with innovations.

Job Description
Job Title: Skills for Life Co-ordinator
Level: Level 5
Salary/Hourly Rate: £25,734.80 - £27,281.80
Term: Permanent
Hours: Full Time (35 hours per week) 8.30am to 4.30pm
Responsible to: Charity Business Manager
Role Summary and Accountabilities:
Skills for Life Co-ordinators are responsible for the provision of inclusive educative programmes, combining a trauma informed youth work approach with outdoor education to support children, young people and vulnerable adults through a journey of change. Coordinators hold responsibility for a team of Skills for Life Youth Support Workers/Instructors, and a Team Leader, providing support, managing casework for individual young people and measuring the impact achieved.
Key Accountabilities
• Line manage the Skills for Life Instructor team (up to 6 people), including the provision of regular six-weekly trauma-informed supervision sessions and annual appraisals.
• Support team members to develop and deliver enhanced curriculum-based programmes that promote informal education, equality, diversity, and inclusion across core provision.
• Lead on designated thematic programme specialisms within the Skills for Life provision.
Job Description/Tasks
1. Programme Operations & Team Leadership
• Support the Skills for Life Operations Manager in the day-to-day operation of the programme.
Use ‘The Diary’ system to allocate instructors, resolve scheduling issues, and manage staff absences.
Line manage Skills for Life Instructors/Youth Support Workers through supervision and annual appraisals.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to support staff development.
• Manage and support the Skills for Life Team Leader, building their capacity to deputise when required.

• Support team members in working with young people who display behaviours that challenge.
• Promote reflective practice through supervision, debriefs, team meetings, and personal reflection.
• Undertake additional duties as required to support the effective operation of BF Adventure.
Safeguarding, Case Management & Service Delivery
• Work in accordance with safeguarding legislation and guidance, collaborating with professionals and participating in multi-agency meetings.
• Use Podio to maintain accurate records, monitor session reports, and ensure appropriate information sharing.
Ensure safeguarding concerns are recorded and managed in line with organisational policies.
• Support effective engagement and positive outcomes for young people by developing strategies to overcome barriers.
Partnership Working, Reporting & Programme Development
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with partner organisations and referral agencies.
• Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, preparing and presenting reports.
• Collect and collate evidence for programme evaluation, impact measurement, and reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to promote Skills for Life programmes to referral agencies and partners.
• Provide data, information, and case studies for the annual Social Impact Report and Trustee meetings.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
• Minimum of two years' experience in a relevant field such as Social Work, Youth Work, Education, or Health.
Knowledge and understanding of the impact that complex needs can have on children and young people’s ability to engage with support services and educational settings.
Knowledge and understanding of how outdoor education can contribute to improved life outcomes for children and young people.
• Experience of working with individuals and groups of children, young people, and adults with complex needs.
• Experience of implementing and applying behaviour management strategies.
• Experience of safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
• Experience of developing and delivering inclusive, outcomes-focused group work programmes and sessions.
• Experience of mentoring, supervising, and supporting the development of others
• Experience of embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion principles into everyday practice.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, families, and professional stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong numeracy skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to maintain effective administrative systems.
• Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a suitable vehicle for business use and with appropriate insurance cover
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
Experience of working within referral-based services, including assessment processes, measuring distance travelled, monitoring progress, and reporting on outcomes within agreed timescales.
• Restrictive Physical Intervention qualification.
• Relevant outdoor activity qualifications.
• Current First Aid qualification.
