Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic senior nurse to join the Upper GI Specialist Nurse Team.
We are looking for an experienced nurse who has extensive knowledge and experience in Upper GI nursing. The right person must have a passion and drive to provide high quality patient centred care.
The post holder will work closely with a variety of health care professionals and the management team. You will be a valued member of the team and you will have input developing multi professional Upper GI nursing service.
Main duties of the job
This is a challenging and demanding role and requires a proactive, self-motivated, dedicated person who is capable of managing complex care pathways across multiple agencies and services to ensure the highest quality of care and service for all patients. You will have excellent communication skills, be able to manager your own work load and have problem solving skills. You will be an excellent team player but equally be able to work autonomously.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Knowledge of strategic issues which influence management of the care of patients diagnosed with UGI at a local, regional and national level
- • Knowledge of audit and research processes and its application
- • Knowledge of the Clinical Governance agenda and NHS Plan
- • Knowledge about the development of the specialist nurse role in a modern NHS
- • Understanding of the need for strong commitment to high standards of patient care and the active involvement of users in the development of the service
- • Ability to work in a complex environment across the whole of the UGI pathway.
- • Advanced interpersonal/communication skills including self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
- • Analytical skills
- • Complex problem solving and assessment skills
- • Ability to lead and develop staff/service as part of a team to optimise resources
- • Ability to design and deliver education, training and development
- • Leadership and influencing skills

Desirable criteria
- • Expert level of knowledge of UGI management and care of those undergoing UGI treatments
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Extensive post registration experience, with experience of working at a senior level within UGI nursing
- • Recent experience in cancer or palliative care
- • Experience in supporting and managing for those with cancer
- • Experience of input into audit
- • Experience in managing change
- • Understanding and experience of service improvement
- • Experience of implementing protocols and guidelines
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • NMC level 1 registration
- • 1st level degree
- • Specialist qualification in cancer care/palliative care/UGI nursing
- • Advanced communications skills course or willing to undertake
- • Hold a record of continuous professional and academic development.
- • Non-medical prescribing and or advanced clinical skills or the willingness to complete the skill gap.
