The Role
As Deputy Data Protection Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the Diocese meets its obligations under UK GDPR and related legislation. You’ll oversee compliance, promote best practice, and help embed a culture of accountability and respect for privacy across the organisation.

This role is office-based, and during the six-month probationary period the post holder will be required to work in the office five days a week. Following successful completion of probation, some hybrid working arrangements may be available.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for data protection queries across the Diocese.
- Develop and implement privacy governance frameworks.
- Support data mapping, audits, and risk assessments.
- Deliver engaging training sessions on data privacy.
- Monitor third-party data processing and sharing arrangements.
- Respond to data subject access requests and manage data breaches.
- Collaborate with the Data Protection Officer on statutory records and compliance reporting.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is not only competent in Data Protection but who also embodies our diocesan values of Competence, Reliability, Honesty, Perseverance, and Love.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability and adaptability.
- Proven experience in UK data privacy compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- A data protection/privacy certification (or willingness to achieve one soon).
- Commitment to the mission and values of the Diocese.
Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
