Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Outpatients Department at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital. This is a busy department which includes rotation among all areas of Outpatients including:-

Surgery, Medicine, Gynaecology, ENT, Rheumatology, Bariatrics, Breast, Oncology, vascular & plastics

The Outpatients Department also covers Zone T (Travelodge) which is off site and requires a 5 minute walk from the main hospital site.

Saturday clinics are also covered within the weekly hours, as well as the potential for some late finishes, as required.

You would be joining a very busy department and team, however full support is given to all new staff and we look forward to welcoming you.

We are a team of 40 staff which includes Matron, Senior Sister, Registered Nurses, Nursing Associates and HCAs. We also have student nurses, Trainee Nursing Associates and student Paramedics that will need supervision and training.

The Trust works on THRIVE values and is very supportive of providing extra training, appraisals, 1-1s and full Occupational Health Support

Main duties of the job

Assisting in clinics and performing tasks such as micro suction, dressings, botox, biopsies, admission of patients from clinics, assisting patients waiting for hospital transport, dealing with any emergencies that arise in clinic, support the Sisters (B6s) with the delivery of care to all patients, as well as the management of junior staff with appraisals and 1-1s.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Band 5 is responsible for being able to independently set up and run clinics to which they are assigned, as well as supporting junior staff. The B5 will have responsibility of dealing with any Drs concerns during clinic and escalating, where necessary to the Sister/Senior Sister or Matron.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current Acute Registered Nurse with the NMC
  • Degree in Nurse related specialty or working towards
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship or teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Evidence of further education, training and on-going learning

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload in a stressful environment
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continued professional practice
